What’s balayage and is it right for me?
Balayage is a type of hair-coloring technique in which a stylist hand-paints your highlights to make them look even more natural. The result is the look of summers spent on a beach, with depth and dimension that resemble the effects of the sun.
Balayage is a highlighting technique created by French colorists back in the 1970s. Rather than traditional foiling or cap techniques, balayage is a freehand technique. The good news is, it doesn’t matter whether you have a short pixie cut or waist-length hair—this highlighting method can be used on anyone. The whole goal of balayage highlights is to leave you with natural-looking, sun-kissed hair. If you have longer locks, balayage can add serious movement to your strands.
If you’ve never been brave enough to break away from your natural hair tone before, balayage is a great way in to changing your hair colour. It works on any natural hair colour and is as low maintenance as you can get. You won’t need regular root touch-ups. As the highlights grow out, it will still look natural.
And if you’re keen to disguise unwanted gray hair, balayage is ideal as your stylist can target gray strands more precisely, avoiding single-process color and the associated stress on the scalp and on non-gray hairs.
